Underfloor Heating
Underfloor heating is a very effective way of heating a building.
Underfloor heating runs at a lower temperature than traditional radiators systems but still provides enough heat output to sufficiently heat the room.
There are several different systems and layouts of underfloor heating to suite every need.
The most popular layouts are the solid floor underfloor heating which has a screeded finish.
Other types are floating floors,
overlay and suspended floor underfloor heating
which are suitable for upper floors.
The major benefits of underfloor heating are;
Even heat spread throughout the room. No cold areas.
No wall space required allowing more room for furniture.
Low surface temperature heating unlike radiators.
The two photos are of a job we did in a childrens nursery.
The main reason for the underfloor heating other than traditional radiators in the nursery was the risk of the children burning themselves on the hot radiators.
By installing underfloor heating it meant that children could lay of the warm floor and have no risk of burning themselves.
On the ground floor (top right) we laid the red underfloor panels on top of the insulation and clipped the pipework into the tracks. Once laid the floor was screeded and then a cardine finish was laid on top of the screed.
On the 1st floor (bottom left) we laid a floating floor.
This included the insulation panels which have the tracks for the pipework already grooved out.
We laid some Aluminuim heat spreader plates into the grooves then clipped the pipework into the plates. Once the floor was laid a timber chipboard floor was laid straight on top. Once again a cardine floor was laid as a finish on top of the timber floating floor.
